My colors are dark brown and champange. I want my bouquet to be a simple and beautiful light pink to pink floral arrangement. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

High quality silks. I'm getting married then too and both from my experience working with weddings and from planning my own this is the best way to go.

Pink flowers are going to be very out of season. You will have a huge markup for imported/hothouse flowers, or you will be extremely limited in your options of flower.

Wait until Easter or right after springtime when the stores like Garden Ridge put their seasonal things on sale. Just browse aisles for tons of pink flowers and accents that catch your eye both in color and shape. Arrange them yourself, or just take them to your florist. Return any unused stems.

Reply:Sounds lovely. Recently my daughter hosted a huge seminar in Chicago at a top hotel and they used beautiful pink mini orchids. They come on long stems and were in various sizes of vases (square, round, etc.) grounded with clear stones. Simple, but elegant. She brought many of them to me at an apartment where I was staying while my husband was in the hospital and they stayed fresh looking for weeks!

I would think that these could be used alone as for the seminar dinner or with an assortment of fall flowers. Speak with a florist for advise on what to combine with them. I can envision something in white and the champagne color scheme you are using.

We both liked these flowers so much we plan to use them for her wedding.

Bouquet questions 2 questions?

We’re having a very small casual ceremony only 4 adults and 2 kids in 18 days and I still haven’t picked out the flowers for my bouquet. I’m wearing a pretty floral dress with both bright (almost fuchsia) flowers and soft pink flowers with a sheer black overlay top, very casual.

I want my flowers to match my dress, I know I can get soft pink roses, but what about the bright pink?..what kind of flower is bright pink? …and I don’t want carnations.

Second question…my bridesmaid and my fiancé’s best man are married to each other and the kids (girls) are the only ones left to throw the bouquet to, so I was thinking, If I chose just light pink roses, say about five of them, I could hand one to every girl, keep one for myself for that day and place the other in a book….how does that sound?

Reply:You could check with the florist about special-ordering bright pink roses (I've seen the spray-type in florist catalogs), or try bright pink gerbera daisies. They don't have a smell, but they are cheerful and more casual than roses. How about stargazer lilies, which shade from white to bright pink? (Make sure that the florist cuts off the stamens so they don't stain your clothes.) Bright pink orchids are also a possibility.

Go down to the florist RIGHT NOW and see what they have available, or check with an online place like florist.com.

Re the second question: there's no need, particularly for a small wedding, to throw the bouquet. What you propose sounds very sweet. You could even order extra single roses to hand to your girls without having to dismantle your bouquet, if you wanted to. I wish you luck.

OK....I had to read your question a couple of times to get it. So you will dismantle your bouquet and give each girl a rose (3 total), keep one, and preserve one. That is a great idea!

My suggestion would be to get to a florist! Unless you want to do your bouquet yourself. I love roses also, so I would stick with roses. For a small bouquet I would go with one shade of pink only (mixed with some greens). Since your dress has some bright flowers in it, I would go with a pale or medium colored pink rose. Go to a florist and see what they can get for you.

Do you want your groom to have a boutonniere? They are usually only around $10.

Reply:Usually the florist will give you a complimentary bouquet to toss...but your idea of giving the roses to the girls is really cute. Another way, and maybe even a cheap way, would be to get a dozen roses from the grocery store the night before. Wrap a few of them in ribbon and let the girls have them for the ceremony. It will make them feel included.

I would go with an up-do and a tiara, no veil, or a small veil in back...
Reply:hrrm- what does the back of the dress look like?? is it just a zipper or does it tie up? if it is just a zipper then i would wear a veil that does down to about your elbows. (maybe a two tier one..??) If it ties up and has a fancy back then i wouldn't wear a veil because i would want to show off the fancy back...

Reply:As a wedding consultant....The pictures show more of a traditional themed wedding, so I would say yes. Here is what you want to think about......How is your hair going to be. Will it be comfortable with a veil? Can I take the veil out and my hair still look okay? Do I know the traditions behind a veil? Do I believe in the traditions behind a veil? Just somethings to thing about.

Who gets flowers?

I've got to start interviewing florists soon, and I'm trying to make a list of the flowers I'll need for our wedding. I've got the centerpieces and the bouquets down, but I'm not sure who all is supposed to get a boutineer or corsage. Obviously the groomsmen get boutineers and the mothers get corsages, but who else? I want to have an accurate count so I can figure out my floral budget. Thanks! Oh, and what other arranged bouquets will I need as well? I know I'll need a couple of arrangements for the altar, but what else?

Who gets flowers?
Okay!! Other than your bouquet and the centerpieces on the dinner tables, make sure you have other tables counted as well- if you are doing anything for the buffet table (if you are having one), gift table (ditto), guest book table, etc.

A few arrangements at the altar are nice, also decide if you want to have anything at the end of the pews and if so, are they going to be floral?

Dont'd forget flower petals - for the flower girls (if theyre allowed to drop them), as well as possibly having guests throw them on you (instead of rice, etc.), and possibly decorating tables with them.

For boutonnieres, corsages, and bouquets, you have obviously the bride and groom, then the groomsmen and bridesmaids, and then mothers and fathers. Some people also choose to honor grandparents with corsages/boutonnieres, or any other guests you want to distinguish, such as godparents. It is also very nice to have anyone who is doing something for you in the ceremony, like reading or singing, to have one.

Also decide on if you want flowers or some other topper on your cake.

Oh and if your flower girls arent or cant drop petals, make sure you have something for them - a mini-bouquet or a pomander ball, or something.

And decide if you are planning to throw the bouquet-you may want a smaller, less expensive "tossing" bouquet instead of using your real one if you want to keep/preserve your own.

All of this is optional-you can stick to the bare bones (wedding party and parents) or flesh it out the the rest of this, but there shouldnt be anything I didnt put on the list that is usually done. Don't forget if you want to save money or do things a little differently, you can use silk flowers instead of real ones, you can choose what types of flowers you use-different ones cost A LOT differently, you can have bridesmaids carry candles or flower girls ring bells, etc. You can also get bouquets and boutonnieres made out of swarovski crystals which are really pretty, or you could do non-floral centerpieces (like floating candles, etc). Reply:You'd be just as married if you had no flowers at all, so the answer is "anyone you'd to whom you'd care to make a gift of flowers." Generally the bride has some sort of bouquet (to later throw) and the groom has some sort of buttonhole blossom. Everything beyond that is really just icing on the cake. If your florist tries to tell you otherwise, tell your florist that Miss Manners says and that he/she is just trying to pad the bill.

Extra- Church flowers- talk to the church about what you need.

Depending on your church/ceremony site, you may not need additional decor. BTW, I used ProFlowers.com, and they were great.

Reply:A lot of the time bridesmaids get flowers as well. and any other who are in the wedding party like sisters brothers in laws and so forth you really need to know who is going to be part of the ceremony and what not cause they should have flowers and yes your grandparents should have one as well nieces and nephew don't really need then only if they are old enough to have one or ware one

you should also find pictures of flowers and arrangements that you like so you can show the florist what you would like to have

How much should a small rose bridesmaid bouquet cost?

I have absolutely no idea what to expect for the cost of the florist for our wedding. I don't even want a lot of flowers, and the bridesmaid's bouquets will just be three large roses tied together with satin. How much would the average florist charge per bouquet? We don't even want floral centerpieces - just tall branches with votive candles hanging off them. I'd just like an idea before we start interviewing florists to get an idea.

Please only answer if you happen to have experience in the floral industry or have planned a wedding before. Thanks :)

It depends on the time of year..For example, around Valentines Day, they will be much more expensive.
Reply:It depends on the florist and also WHEN you buy the flowers. It is cheaper to go through a wholesale florist because they buy directly from the growers, and the flowers are fresher. However, the cost of flowers can vary, depending on timing. For example, my florist told me not to have my consultation until after Valentine's Day, because the weeks leading up to it, the prices of flowers go up (from the growers) but right after they go down. Same thing with Mother's Day. Once my price is quoted and the deposit is paid, it can't go up. But each florist differs...

Anyway, to give you a number, I would't spend more than $20 per bouquet for a three-rose ensemble

Order bulk roses from www.costco.com and make your own bouquets. They come in 125 stems and cost either $189 or $219 depending on the color you order.

You could even make your own bridal bouquet if you wanted and /or use any leftover for rose petals, etc. It is easy. You need florist tape, wire, ribbon, straight pins with pearl embellishment on tip and hairspray. It only takes a few minutes. Google it. You will pay double or triple for such an easy task through a florist.
Reply:I am having bouquets of 6 roses made for my bridesmaids and am paying $45 each for them.
Reply:I paid $65 for cream roses (approx. 8-10 roses) in my bridesmaid's bouquet, and $125 for mine (all roses....probably about 20).

In total we ordered: 2 bouquets (just me and a MOH), 6 boutonnieres, 4 corsages, 2 candelabra pieces for the church, and rose petals for the tables at the reception and flower girl and paid about $500. Hope that helps!!
Reply:It depends on what time of the year you are planning on. If you are planning on getting roses for the bridesmaids around Valentine's Day expect the price to be considerably high.

If you are planning to do it another time of the year that isn't around any other major holiday (flower prices will go up around the holidays) then I would expect you to pay somewhere around $30-$35. You might be better off doing it yourself if you only want 3 roses for the bridesmaids. Get some fabric/ribbon from a craft store and buy a few dozen roses--you can wrap them up the morning of...it'll save you a lot of money.

We need a cheap but nice reception place w/ dance floor. Outside catering allowed. 150 - 200 ppl seating. Nice surrondings for pictures... One problem I had with my wedding is that it is hard to locate vendors in most website as most likely they group by states and there are too many of them that's too far from me and I have to look at each site to figure out.

Reply:Gosh that's tough...I don't know if that is even possible with that many people. I'm having a hard enough time staying under 5k with 50 people. You may have to rethink some things to stay on a budget that small. Maybe not do a formal reception and do finger foods and punch or something. the first thing you'll unfortunatly have to do is limit your guest list. i know that sux, but wedding are priced per person. you could also try having a champagne and dessert reception, instead of dinner. in northern cali, try some vineyards--maybe even a wine and cheese reception.

the best advice i can give you is to do much of the work yourself to save money, and have a great time. best of luck.

Reply:Wow, that was our budget 20 years ago and we used our church social hall on a Saturday morning ($100 for the church and the hall). We served a light buffet, tiered wedding cake, punch, no alcohol (except one toast), no dancing. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's what your budget buys for 100 people.

For the bridesmaids, if you have a friend or family member who sews, you can save a ton of money. With their consent, I chose the fabric and asked my three very differently-shaped bridesmaids (sized 4, 8, %26amp; 20) to choose one dress pattern or three! (I was amazed that they found a simple dress pattern they all liked and it looked great on all of them.) Please don't ask them wear dresses that don't suit them, don't fit perfectly, or that scream "bridesmaid." (My mother made my dress - it was exactly what I wanted and couldn't find in any bridal shop.)

To save more money, the caterer dropped the food and I hired some college student friends to help serve. Another friend sang and another played the organ. (We paid them all, but not much.) Also, we moved the flowers from the sanctuary to the social hall and used the bridesmaids' bouquets there too.

Simple CAN be lovely - and remember it's about the marriage and not the party. You don't want to start the marriage in debt from the wedding.

Reply:You aren't going to have a 150 person wedding for 3,000 anywhere in Cali hon. Even if you served Mcdonalds in the backyard you are looking at $7 a person on just food. You would still need something to eat on and chairs for butts. As much as you might not want to you are going to need to trim your guest list. DIY are the best three letters in your alphabet when trying to keep costs down too. TheKnot.com has plenty of budget friendly tips and project ideas.

See if you can do the ceremony and reception in same spot. House of brides.com is great place for b/m dresses. Also check out jcpenney and sears. Make your own bouquet with silk flowers from Michaels. With a budget like that...personally, I would get married at a park and just have a big family cookout. I will not have bridesmaids, or any flower arrangements at church or home. I just will have a small bouquet arranged from my backyard flowers for me. No corsages or anything. I believe it is a waste of $$, and the floral industry charges so much and then off to a honeymoon for 2 weeks in which I would never see floral arrangements that would wilt anyways. You say?

Here is a thought:

~ Do you have enough backyard flowers for 2 vases (can be bought at a dollar store) for each side of the altar at the church?

I do think that would look nice. OR....do you live by a Walmart or Costco? I buy roses all the time from Walmart...you get 12 for $10! Cheap! I don't know what Costco charges. All the grocery stores with floral departments (and some without!) even sell flowers now. My local grocery store does and I live in a little town!

I do think it would look nice to have something in the church. But, again, YOUR choice.

Also...something inexpensive would be ....what about a small boutonniere for your groom and a small corsage for the "moms"? This is EASY, EASY, EASY to do with silks, which you can make up ahead of time. And with all the upcoming sales at craft stores? Well, again, just an idea. I used this bouquet tape under the ribbon and I used ivey and hanging flowers under the roses and they came out better than what I could of purchased at any florist. I'm having a fall wedding and would like to give my bridesmaids each a necklace to wear during and after the wedding. They are wearing ivory tops with a espresso skirt and will be carrying a bouquet of all different colored fall flowers. I am a Keralite myself and can fairly safely tell you how folks in kerala would react, so I would ask you not to send musical cards. It would make your lady look like a complete clown.

How can I dry a bridal bouquet?
Yes you can dry them by hanging them upside down. It is best if they are hanging free from walls so they are not flattened on one side. I'm sure a florist can also help you with sprays or other ways to keep dried flowers from crumbling.

i'm going to be ordering flowers in bulk and having a family friend do my bouquets and arrangements (she's experienced.) i've looked at the sam's club website, they have other kinds of lilies but not stargazers. these are my favorite flowers, and i'd really like to have them for my wedding. are there any other bulk floral websites out there?

My friend is getting hip surgery and I would really like to send her flowers to the hospital. The thing is, she's kind of goth and I'd love to send her something a little more her style than just a cutesey little bouquet. However, I don't want it to be too "deathly" in a hospital setting. Oooh...that's a tough one.

I've found roses at the grocery store that were such a dark shade of red, they were almost black. They looked great, but that also meant they weren't that healthy and they didn't last too long.

I'd suggest purple orchids, but those can by pricey, and they're also rather delicate flowers that can die quickly if they aren't cared for.

You might be best off with some kind of potted plant arrangement. It wont die as quickly as cut flowers, and you might be able to get a nice arrangement to suit the occasion. See if they still have any Halloween pots in the back.

I'm making my own crystal bouquets- a lot of them- 9 bridesmaids plus my own- plus the bout. for the guys as well... but I've been thinking about the toss bouquet- I'm going to make one for the toss bouquet, but I'm nervous about throwing it- I don't think it will break if it drops, but I don't want it to poke someone's eye out. So, any ideas on something else I could toss? I'd then give the person who caught it, a real crystal bouquet I made. We're not really having flowers- just rose petals for the tables, so I don't think I'd want to throw a floral toss bouquet.

If you're using a flexible gauge wire for the stems, I wouldn't think it would poke someone's eye out--I mean, it's not like you're hurling your bouquet at home plate at 90mph, ya know? They'll probably bend when someone catches it anyway. You're tossing it over your shoulder as well. Make it smaller than the rest, like a nosegay size, and I think it will be fine. I think it's georgeous, and what a unique idea!

i wouldn't throw one of these though, i think you are quite right, it could hurt someone! if you don't want a simple floral bouquet to toss then what about a kissing ball? you could easily make one in the size you want. you use a styrofoam ball for the base and add fresh or dried or silk greens/flowers of your choosing, ribbon/garland or a few crystals - glue them into place. you can also purchase readymade or artificial ones!

it would be easy to toss, easy to catch, and they are quite attractive.

Reply:We're doing two tosses:

1. A "fortune toss" since there are very few single people. All the ladies come up and I am going to hold like 8 roses. Each will have their own ribbon with a tag attached that has some sort of fortune, for instance it may say something like "you will be the next kissed", "you will take a trip", "you will come into money"....etc. At the beginning I will hold them all together like a boquet then when I toss they will scatter.

Another idea I loved and would have done if we had single ladies is to get long ribbons. Tie one around the boquet then gather the rest in your hand. Hold it up over your head and have the single ladies gather around and each picks an end of a ribbon. They all tug and the person who gets the one attached to the boquet wins. That may be a good way for you to do a "toss" without shattering your crystals. Make sure the photographer is up high because it makes a great photo to see you with crystals and pretty ribbons surrounded by your ladies.

2. A kiddie toss. I got some cheap little beanies and some halloween candy and am going to do a toss for the kids before the adult toss. I don't want them feeling left out. Just make sure you have enough beanies for each child to get one so nobody gets jelous.

I do quite a bit of fundraising. I am hosting a huge silent auction in March for an abused childrens shelter.

I usually start my silent auctions at 25% of fair market value. Understanding that most items end up selling for less than full retail.

One of my items is a 3 night stay in Breckenridge, value 1800.00. I am starting bidding at $500.00.

You have to have some discretion, if it is high ticket. What you have is a pure impulse item, and would not appeal to everyone. I'd set the reserve price at $100.00 %26amp; see what happens.

If the ring was valued at $250 then that may have been a replacement value, and therefore easily DOUBLE what it would make in a normal auction. If that was an insurance valuation, same thing. Keep this in mind.

Nothing kills a lot dead like too high a reserve and a greedy owner. Sorry, that has to be said.

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it on that occasion, not what you decide it's worth to you.

If it's a silent auction at a sort of charity sale, and people are drinking and someone falls "in love" with it, then it may go higher. Are they "fashionable"? Can you imagine wearing them yourself? If not, keep the reserve reasonable. Drunken punters mean higher prices at any auction, especially if they are private buyers with too much money and it's a good cause.

Personally, if I were in charge, I'd set the reserve at $125 or $150.

Would you photograph the wedding, if you were a wedding photographer? Bake the cake? Arrange floral bouquets? Would you have a twinge of conscience about accepting the money?

I ask as a same-sex married woman who would like to know why my opponents think as they do.

Reply:Before my period of enlightenment, my husband and I owned and ran a photography business. This very topic came up, and we actually called whats-his-face, the head of the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), to ask if we were required by law to accept the contract for a gay "wedding" (which did not exist at the time, but we all kow people hold weddings whether they be recognized by the state or not). We actually called a lawyer so that we could turn down those vile gay couples, and know we were in the right. We certainly would not have accepted their money unless it were illegal not to.

To quote Michelle from Full House: "How RUuuuDE"

I'd jump at the chance to shoot a gay wedding (or whatever) now. There's no 'making up' for the things I did and said, but I can be thankful for my change of heart, and move forward.

What is a fabulous way to thank an awesome bridesmaid?

My maid of honor was incredible! I thought she would hold a bouquet for me and perhaps throw a shower, but she took being a bridesmaid to a whole new level! She threw parties, went shopping with my mother for a dress, created floral arrangements, made me breakfast on the wedding day, drove me everywhere, went to my dress fittings, anticipated my every need, coordinated details with the other bridesmaids, transported the wedding gifts, the list is so long. I'd like to thank her in a huge way. Any ideas? I have $100 I could spend. Thank you in advance!

Honestly, this was the kind of MOH I was for my best friend, everyone commented on how they had wished that their MOH's were more like me. Her husband bought she and beautiful matching rings and wrote a letter that was read at her shower about what he thought our friendship was. It was really beautiful and I was so touched that they had made something that was totally about them about me as well. BUT in all honesty, nothing I recieved gift wise was worth the thank you note that I got from my best friend afterwards. It was heartfelt and genuine and full of such gratitude towards me and my husband as well.

No gift will replace a really nice letter and that will be enough for her. Remember she didnt do all that stuff for a gift at the end, she did it because it was her pleasure to help make your special day awesome.

cant do much with that... if it were me i would prob send her on a trip somewhere... maybe get her tix to that concert, or play or show she wanted... something that she would do for you...

seems like what she did is priceless... dont limit yourself on $100. if you can find something free, but more meaningful than money can buy, go for that instead.

Reply:Wow...is she for real? Just kidding :) That's wonderful! There's so much you can do, and not even have to spend money. Throw her a thank-you bbq, play all of her favorite tunes and make her favorite food. Make her a "friends" cd of all songs about friendship on it. A personalized engraved picture frame. A day outing for the two of you to a spa, a hiking trip, or a picnic...a girl's night with some chick flicks and a pizza (the last one is my answer to pretty much everything-hahaha)...use your imagination, and congrats on the wedding!

Reply:Take some time and find great pictures of the 2 of you together over the years and make a small or not so small scrapbook for her. I made photo albums/mini scrapbooks for all the bridesmaids and groomsmen with just pictures from our wedding weekend and have received tons of comments on them. They all appreciated having the memories and the pictures (some candid) from our special day. Take some from all the years you have been friends and put them in a thank you book. It is has personal meaning, it's cost effective and you know that she will love it!

I am trying to choose my bridal bouquet. I have looked into both real floral bouquets and silk flower ones. Anyone have any feedback on either one...which did you choose, which do you like best??? Etc.

I think that real flowers really make the difference at a wedding. It's the look, the feel...and the smell. Even if you choose fragranceless flowers, they still smell fresh, where as silk flowers have that craft store smell to them.

Go for real flowers that will smell great and look nice and bright. Plus, you can dry them out and have a memory of your special day.

Reply:I couldn't decide on just one kind or color of flower, so my bouqet was a real mix of lilacs, white roses, tiger lilys, and daffodils. They were gorgeous, but remember real flowers have to be chilled and cared for. I'd sugguest drying them out to keep them for memories afterward. Go with what catches your eye!
Reply:Silk flowers can be very nice and some you can't really tell unless you get up close and touch. You can then have your bouquet forever.

Real flowers are real flowers. Due to some personal issues I could not abide anything fake at my wedding but you might like the silk ones.

Reply:Hey just my opinion but Silk flowers can look just as real and can be cheaper. I have seen many bouq done in silk and I didn't know it till after the wedding!

Here is why I enjoy "fake flowers"

1. no worries about the weather (which can make flowers wilt, not open, not be in season,

2. you do not have to have the dried afterwords (do you know how flowers are dried....they use the same powder as kitty litter is made out of) So you are paying way to much for Kitty litter. plus you can keep them for ever no worries about transporting them, plus your maids can keep them.

3. price can be cheap or expensive as you want, you can make them yourself and have plenty of time to practice with them before hand....as in real you cant unless ahead of time and practice then the day before the wedding buy more flowers and do it all over again!

4. the one thing I have talked to every bride about and they have a complaint about is the flowers (they were the wrong color, they were closed, they were open, the ribbon was wrong, the flowers are wrong, etc) Silk you can see before the wedding and make sure everything is right!

Reply:I would get real ones, becaus they seem more romantic and smell great and feel nice and they are lovely. You don't have to save your silk flowers, your photographers will save everything you need:)

I used real for my bouquets and boutonnieres, and silk for decorations and tossing bouquet.

We made them ourselves and spent about $60. and got lots of compliments.

Sadly, the grooms mother has leukemia and for reasons that i'm not sure about, she is unable to be around fresh cut flowers due to the treatment she is receiving. For this reason, all the tables had silk flowers on them. They looked fantastic...and it is something that can be kept forever as a memento of the big day.
Reply:I used silk. I've seen too many problems with fresh flowers, mostly discoloring and wilting. You can get really quality silk and unless you're holding the bouquet, nobody knows the difference. And then you can keep it forever!

Reply:You HAVE to have a real bouquet! Even if all of the flowers in your wedding are silk besides the ones you're holding. You have to remember all the pictures people will be taking. Close ups on your rings and the edges of the silk flowers will show. If its smell you're worried about with your guests or yourself, no one will be bothered by what you're holding or you can ask a florist about an arrangement that has little scent. If not then the scent of those flowers will remind you of your big day for the rest of your life! You won't regret it, get the fresh ones.

this summer my sister got married and had real flowers they cost close to $4,000 for 7 bm 7gm and the fam. it was hot and our flowers were wilting befor we got down the aisle. The flowergirl stept on my flowers and broke many of them as i was helping her up the stairs so we just stuck pins in them to stay up.

I had 4 bm and 4 gm and the fam for my wedding and i made all the flowers for ours with sliks and no one knew they were fake and they cost $60 and were breath taking.

All in all it is your decision but if you are looking for a way to cut the budget this is the way.

Reply:I'm planning my wedding right now and am initially planning on real flowers. I love the cool feel and texture of real flowers, and the smells. Also, when they dry, they have an amazing antique look. My mom is a horticulturalist (she arranges flowers), and some of the things I've noticed when she works with real and silk flowers is this:

Real:

-It is real and beautiful

-smells very nice

-not always in season or available

-Sometimes can break during handling and arranging

-will wilt if not stored properly.

Silk:

-Many silk flowers (esp. expensive) do look amazingly real

-Some do have a light scent, and then, you could also perfume them

-Can be handled many times and may just need refluffling or a clean cloth to restore it's beauty

-Come in a multitude of colors, types, and textures.

I think it is really is going to depend on your budget and what your theme or color is going to be.

Also, my mom has done a combination of the two when certain flowers weren't available. That would be beautiful and hard to tell if it is fake or not.

The Sims 2 is my favorite game, and as with the original series I am always excited when an expansion pack is released. I have yet to be disappointed; not only do they always come with 100+ new objects, but they expand the actual gameplay. I am especially looking forward to OFB, as it sounds like it will essentially add a tycoon-game aspect into the already delightfully fun world of the Sims.

I want to have a floral arrangment delivered to my friend who's just moved into a new home. She and her husband have three cats. Is there anything special that I should keep in mind while choosing a bouquet?

don't get something that can be knocked over easily. some cats do behave, but others don't. also, make sure the flowers aren't poisonous to the kitties.

Reply:Keep in mind what type of lowers to get, a major poisonous flower is Lilies. Cats like to eat plants and lilies cause acute kidney failure-usually fatal after just a little bit of flower or pollen. Go to the ASPCA website and their poison control has a list of flowers that are poisonous, as well as what isn't.
Reply:In my experience, NO, they do not behave around them. If mine smell fresh flowers, they are all over it! But, I would also guess that your friends are used to dealing with this with their cats. Otherwise, I'd look for something a little less appealing to the kitties.

Reply:i wish i could say yes but i often wake up to find smashed vases and trails of sick with bits of flowers. Cats will do anything to get to the flowers and the only thing you can do is glue them down.

Reply:As a general rule - try to get something with a larger base and possibly an arrangement in a pot. Also things that hang far down - such as ribbons or ivy might not be a good idea. Most kitties will want to explore the new addition to the room, but they're not necessarily going to try and destroy it. If it can stand up to a head being rubbed on it and a little tugging, it should be relatively safe. My cats have chewed on a lot of plants so far. The only plant I know of that you have to be truly careful with is a poinsettia.

But I wouldn't worry too much. Your friends will surely find a safe spot to display the flowers where their kitties can't get to them.
Reply:Some cats leave house plants or cut flowers alone, some don't. My cat is very gentle and careful not to knock over a flower arrangement, but likes to eat some types of plants. She LOVES anything with baby's breath (but that's tacky anyways!) and will chew anything with large leaves. She generally leaves most flowers alone, particularly if they are very fragrant. One trick my Mom taught me was to get a pot of cat grass at the same time and encourage the kitty to eat her plants, not yours. It works well with her cat, but not as well with mine. I think it's up to the individual cat.
Reply:From my own experience cats tend to break vases and eat flowers so maybe think about sending a fruit basket. It is nice and the cats don't bother it much.
Reply:You should see which plants are dangerous to cats (there are many out there). You could look at any vet websites, ex. aspca.org. Try not to use a glass vase if you can, it will most likely break soon. Hope I helped.

Our cats bahve themselves around flower arrangmeent, that is until we walk out fo the room, then it becomes a free for all. And of course, they will look innocnet when you walk back in and see the leave still falling tothe ground. :-)

Some flower are poisonous to cats too. I'm thinking that orchids are the ones that are very toxic, but not positive.
Reply:I have a few cats myself. Some of them leave plants alone, some don't. I learned along time ago that it was destined to have no plants in my home. For a house-warming gift, try something a little more practical. I personally wouldn't want flowers. Try somethign they can actually use in there new home.

Reply:They might. Like people, all cats are not the same. Mine love to munch all flowers and will go to any length to get to them. I have completely given up on having them in my home because there is nowhere the kitties won't be able to get to them.

Here's another idea though - someone I know received one of these the other day and it was fantastic.

Cats are very curious animals, so you might select flowers that won't be toxic if ingested.

Reply:Cats are very interested in everything, especially smelly dangling flower pettles or leaves. They may not mean to knock over the vase but the flowers needed to go.
Reply:yes, don't do it. The cats will probably eat whatever you send making them sick or knock it over making a mess.

I would recommend a nice bottle of champagne instead.
Reply:They will knock it over as soon as they see it. If you get something that the cats aren't going to be poisoned from and if you make sure the vase has a very study bottom and is wide enough to not be tipped over that would be better than a traditional base. Good Luck!!!!!!!!

PS I am sure they could keep the cats in a room away from the flowers or vice versa....they could make it work I would send it.

I have a very tight budget for my wedding, so i figured I could make my floral bouquets and centerpieces myself. They seem pretty easy to make. My mom says it would be too much pressure. what do you think?

Too much pressure?
you can easily do this without any drama or pressure.

if using fresh flowers: talk with local florists regarding what will be in season, how much she/he can supply and the cost.

you can then design them in advance and buy all the wires and vases necessary in advance. So all you'll have to do is have them delivered (or pick them up) and arrange them. This can be very therapeutic and help you relax instead of being stressful..

but then you risk having a time management issue, and chances of the flowers not being available when you need them, or not being "open" yet etc.

if you are using silk, plastic, dried flowers: you can buy a sample of what you are thinking off and design it at home until you are happy. then buy the lot in bulk and get to work. you can do this months in advance, and with good storage you won't have any dramas come the wedding.

my friend designed all her own centrepieces and the church flowers. we (the bridesmaids) helped her on the morning of the wedding by putting them all in vases and arranging them. it was very relaxed and fun, and they looked beautiful.

Reply:The bouquets are pretty simple, as long as you simply tie some stems together--that's a nice look anyway. If you feel you can handle it, then I say go for it. One suggestion though on the centerpieces--if you've never done it before, you might want to take a class at a craft store in flower arranging.
Reply:No pressure at all...in fact it may ease some financial pressure. I made centerpieces, bouquets, and boutiniers for my wedding. It took me about 3 hours to make everything and in total it only cost me about $75...way cheaper that going to a florist.
Reply:Well, depending on how much time you have, I would do it. I am on a tight budget also and its a six month engagement. We did the bouquets, corsages, and boutoniers. We did them all in one weekend and bought all the flowers at Hobby Lobby when there were 40% off. It ended up being 1/3 of the price, someone else was going to do it. My other suggestions is eBay has yesss-i-do seller who isn't too expensive and I was going to user her but ended up doing my own. I was also going to do the centerpieces but I found some awesome ones at Wal-Mart craft for cheap when they were closing all of our flower departments.

Reply:I think making your own center peices is an excellent way to cut cost and as long as you get things together well enough in advance it shouldnt be that stressful. I am also planning a wedding very soon and here are some simple examples I found that are inexpensive.

Both would be pretty for a spring wedding. Possibly use daisy or other wild flowers that are inexpensive.

And this is possibly the most simple and one of my favorites.

You just gather some river rocks and place then in a vase. You could gather some branchs and if you wanted a diffrent color other then the natural browns, you could buy spray paint the same color as your wedding colors ( prolly about 2$) and put those in place of the brown ones.

Well those are just somes ideas. Candles are always create a lovely effect and can usually be found at most any dollar store . Hope this helps and that you have a beautiful wedding =]
Reply:I am doing everything myself for my wedding also. As long as you have enough willing people to help, you will be fine. Gather up your bridal party and do it together and make it a party or pre-wedding event! I am using silk flowers so that we can make everything ahead of time so that we won't be stressed or pressured. Good luck! If you are thinking of using silks, then, no, I don't think this would be too much pressure as you can get them done early.

If you are thinking of ordering wholesale flowers and putting them together the day before your wedding (as a florist would), then, yes, I do think that would be too much pressure.
Reply:I made my centerpieces and wanted to add more things to my bouquet, unfortunately I ran out of time.

Keep in mind that you need a lot of time because you have to have to have patience in case something gets messed up.

The making of the baskets, keepsakes, centerpieces and all of the other extra special touches helped me relax.

When I was glueing pearls and lace it was so distracting from the stuff that was going wrong that I had no control over.

Reply:If you have so many other things to do, then you're just asking for stress.

If it's easy to do and doesn't take all day and all night then do it!

Otherwise, plan a get together party and have you and your friends do it in an assembly line fashion.
Reply:YOu know, simple is sometimes more effective than an intricate bouquet. Take a look online at floristry sites, and see what you think. I am also on a tight budget and I am considering doing my own flowers. Flowers are beautiful anyways so I am thinking of just tying a few pretty ones together simply with a ribbon.

YOu can save a lot of money doing this yourself but do remember that you will have loads of other stuff that has to be done, including getting yourself ready.....it might be easier to use silk flowers, that way you can do it with a few weeks to spare.
Reply:i made all the centerpieces for my friends wedding... they were beautiful! i got glass wide mouthed vases... glass wide, shallow fish bowls... i turned the vase upside down... hot glued the fish bowl on top... stuffed some flowers (artificial but you can use real) up the bottom of the vase.. make sure you get ones that are on branches so that they stand up.. put some colored stones in the fish bowl... with water and floating candles... and then i hot glued some flower heads around to outside of the fish bowl.. i also let some flowers float in the water.. they were gorgeous and sooooo easy to make! we made them a couple weeks before.. maybe even a month.. i dont remember...

You might also try contacting some of the local nurseries in your area. They might have the flowering (or ornamental) cabbage or kale in stock. You might even call the florist back and see if he/she can recommend a nursery that carries the ornamental cabbage you're looking for. They shouldn't mind, given that they are in the cut flowers business more than the live garden business.

Hopefully the seed link I mentioned above will help you narrow your search and give you an idea of the exact name you will be asking for.

Do the flowers/colors of the bride's bouquet match the bouquet of the bride's maids? The dresses are a soft pink and I have chosen cream colored roses with pink tips for my bouquet.

The bouquet style I am selecting for my wedding will be cascade but the style for the bride's maids will be hand tied.

Does anyone happen to have any resources about floral matching for the bride/bride's maids/groom/groom's men?

It's the first "formal" wedding for both families and I am going nuts!

Bouquets to Match?
You can have different bouquets I have seen it done and it looks good. Ive even seen bride with one bouquet, MOH with another and all BM's with their matching ones. Id just make sure they all tie together somehow.
Reply:Usually the bridesmaids' bouquets are smaller versions of the bride's bouquet. In your case, it's good that the style of them is different. Roses are expensive, so maybe go with another combination of pink and cream flowers for them - maybe in a darker pink than their dresses.

Your groom could have a rose like that in your bouquet, maybe with stephanotis or baby's breath. His groomsmen could wear a single flower of whatever you choose for the bridesmaids.

Just talk with your local florist - they are amazing!
Reply:In all weddings I have been in, the bouquets did not match. In my own wedding, I carried white calla lillies while the girls carried pink calla lillies, so there was continuity there. But I think you can do it the same, possibly make yours larger or add some greenery to yours (cascading) and keep theirs tight and clean (hand tied).

A good idea, If you have a white dress, which most do, then have a ribbon tied around your waist to match your bride's maids dresses. And then have the guys have a flower to match and in there jacket pockets.

go to your grocery store floral department. You can get bunches of flowers, in a bouquet or not. Ours has stems of tulips, in groups of 7, I think. Carnations, daffodils, or alstromeria...which last a long time.
Reply:Most major stores such as grocery stores and WalMarts, KMarts etc. have single flowers that you can buy. Most floral shops also have singles that you can buy. As far as training, check with your large floral shops. In Illinois, it was Amling's. Most of these large distributors offer classes and training. Also check your local community college or Adult Education. Most of these colleges will offer classes in what you are talking about. It is not a dumb question, you are looking for an answer to something that interests you. That's what were here to do...answer you.

I'm trying to make a candy bouquet for a centerpiece, and I wanted to know how to make one. I bought a flower pot, mini candy bars, Skittles, and many other Halloween candies. But I don't know how to assemble it. I purchased bbq skewers, floral tape, %26amp; floral foam (Cones %26amp; rectangular shaped foam). I tried putting one together by gluing the skewers to the candy, but for some reason I don't know how to assemble it nicely and I don't know which floral foam to use for something like that. well, this may take awhile...its easier to use hersheys kisses, but here goes. Put the skewer just a bit into the candy, take the floral tape, and stretch it as you wrap, around the bottom of the candy and down the skewer. Put whatever floral foam fits the best into your pot...cut the skewers into about three different lengths, and arrange the candy all around..all sides, with the tallest at the top. You will still need something to cover the floral foam that shows..like shredded tissue paper or floral moss or something ..hope this helps

Well what roses to use during a wedding is subjective to what the bride wants. My mom is a gardening nut and she has this book "American Rose Society Encyclopedia of Roses". It has infomation on 2000 different roses and their properties. I say buy the book and expand on what types of roses you use. Good Luck!

Can anyone tell me an average cost for floral costs for a wedding. Specifically I'd like information on bridal bouquets. I'm not looking for anything too elaborate or big. A simple rose bouquet. Any other information on floral costs would be appreciated.

I just read in a bridal magazine that the national average for wedding flowers is about $1200. No, I don't plan to spend that for MY wedding!

Even with just roses, the cost of the bouquet can be $30 or $1000, depending on what variety and who does the flowers.

Although the styles are a little conservative, FTD's website should give you a really basic idea of what simple bouquets and centerpieces might cost. Any local florist should give you a free consultation to get an idea of what it would cost you.
Reply:Bouquets can run from $100 and up. For the total cost of flowers at my first wedding - my bouquet, four bridesmaids bouquets, probably 8-10 boutineers and 8 coursages was like $700. My second wedding we ordered 250 roses for $199, about five different colors from www.bigrose.com and they were gorgeous. Not only did we have huge bouquets, we had so many roses left over that we had them in vases all over the reception.

Reply:Just go into the Flower Market during public hours. Public hours are 6 am to noon Tuesday, thursday, Saturday or 8am to noon M,W,F. You'll have to pay the entrance fee (a whooping $1 on Saturdays or $2 any other day) and they'll stamp your hand and give you a sticker to wear to show that you paid.

Then you just wander around a purchase between the 2 warehouse buildings.

Two (okay 3) words of warning though:

-Shop around for prices before handing over money.

-Most places only take cash, so you need to have it on you, or there are ATMs

as for a toss bouquet...I tossed my actual flowers so I didnt have this....and my flowers were orchids and lillies and roses...the bridesmaids were just roses and other little flowers and the guys had roses.

I could have however ordered the package that had bride bouguet...3 bridesmaid bouquets, flower girl basket, 6 boutinnieres, 4 corsages and a big centerpiece for like $550...but I didnt need all that.

Reply:It really depends on your area of the country, and what type of flowers you choose. But, the averages are these:

Bridal Bouquet: $100-175

B'maids' Bouquets: $45-75 each

Bouts: $8-10 each

Corsages: $10-15 each

Toss Bouquet: $35-50 (but most of my florists throw them in free).

Ask if anything is free like that when you meet with one. Some throw in cake flowers too for free if you don't need a ton; they just give you the leftovers from your other flowers.

You didn't ask about centerpieces, but they are varied a lot in price from $15-200 each depending on size and style.

Orchids are some of the more expensive flowers, but they're in season in Florida through spring, so that's a good thing for you. Some species of orchids are less expensive than other, so you might consider using the cheaper variety.

I checked Michaels and they do not have them and Multicraft do not have them in the 30" size. They were popular a few years ago when they were sprayed gold, wings added and a floral bouquet in the doll's hands. They were mounted on a base with a dowel to make her stand up by herself.

Just wondering if its possible to grow a bush from a single flower I received in a floral bouquet. I was told if I cut off a piece of the stem and place in a glass of water, wait for roots to sprout, and then plant. That seems too easy. Thanks for any advice. Also, specific details would really be needed here, I'm very new at this!! Thanks!

Hey. You can grow certain plants from cuttings or water-rooted twigs, but not peonies as far as I know. That would be like trying to grow roses from a bouquet. I once received a flower arrangement that had dried corkscrew willow branches in it. When I went to throw out the flowers, there were fine hair roots on the twigs so I potted them, watered and nursed them for about six months, then planted the sturdiest ones outside. Lo and behold, five years later I have the most gorgeous 12-ft high tree in my side yard. You can do this with any type of willow and gardenias. Other plants have to be cut at an angle, then have powdered root starter put on them and have to be watched carefully. It's fun when it works out though. We live on 3 acres and I've cloned a lot of plants and trees.

Reply:Try a craft store / fabric store - you might find what you are looking for in the buttons selection. You can make it into an accent by running some thin wire through the back, twisting the strands together to hold it in place, and thread it down into the bouquet.

Where can I find a website where I can customize a floral bouquet so that I can be sure that it looks right before I decide on a bouquet for my wedding? Or possible find a website where it shows you a bouquet so that I don't have to buy one?

The only reason I ask for an online place is because I am currently on bedrest for the remainder of my pregnancy (due Father's day) and I can't go out and look. So I am trying to plan my wedding to keep me occupied. lol

My flowers are going to be red rose, white roses, queen anne's lace, poppies, and greenery (all the flowers have a special meaning for family who has passed away). The bridesmaids are going to carry yellow and red bicolor roses, forget-me-nots,baby's breath, and greenery. And the groomsmen are going to be wearing yellow rose buiteneers (special meaning for the groom)

She had lights in it. I used to have a flower shop until I moved to a different state. I also did her wedding cakes. I'm getting married and made my own gorgeouis bouquet myself from a fantastic company in the UK, however, I do nto wish to purchase further from the company because they are a bit overpriced. Anyone know of any good companies online that they have used that have realistic flowers? And NOT the cheezy kind you find at Micheals/ Joann Crafts, etc.?

I got mine from silkspecialties.com. They made the bouquets but I think you can order flowers seperately too. They did a wonderful job. Everyone thought they were real! It was so nice too not have to worry about them dying in the heat! I have them on my mantel now. I love them.

For 8 bridesmaids, 16 boutinerres, 8 corsages, flower girl basket, and my bouquet it was $650. Not bad considering what it would have costed with real roses

Just so you know there is one picture of the girl who caught the bouquet. That is one that I ordered from a different company as a sample. It was horrible and looked so fake even though it looked great on the internet.

Anyway, forgo the floral clips and lay the boquets on the table in front of you instead. it will save a little money, and it will be much easier instead of fiddling with the clips.

The flowers in the bouquet appear to be anemones and salvias with greenery. They are situated at the bottom of the pottery and are straight up and down - not slanted following the lines of the dish. The pattern is reminiscent of late 1920 and early 1930 patterns.

I will be making my own corsages and bouquets on my wedding day. Some friends told me that florists dip the flowers or spray them with some solution that essentially seals the flower so that they don't wilt or continue to bloom. Does this exist? What is called? Where do I get it?

For wearable flowers, I don't think so.

There's an 'anti desiccant' spray, that will help "keep" the flowers longer. It's called Wilt Pruf. However, it is waxy product, so could leave residue on fabric.

The best thing to do is to soak the whole corsage in water... fill a sink, and let them sink/float, for the 12 hours before the ceremony. Water will be absorbed through the flower. Keep them cool/ in the shade until they are ready to be worn.

It isn't unusual for a florist to arrange wedding flowers the day of the ceremony. Ofcourse for a guest/ participant of the wedding, that's quite impossible.
